American Legion Post #297
The first meeting was held at the Harwood School in October, 1955. By 1969, donations raised enough to build the Legion Hall with help from a grant from the Cass County Memorial Fund. The Legion was renamed to Richard E. Nelson Post #297, a Harwood native, in his memory after being killed in action in Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 on the USS Arizona.
The Legion is open Wednesday-Saturday from 11 am - 1 am. They have darts, video games, pull tab gaming, Wii games and a big screen TV. Harwood Seniors meet there the 2nd Monday of each month for their monthly lunch/meeting. Legion member meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 8:00 PM
